Mungo Gives This Matchup One Thumb Up

GAME OF THE WEEK
Corlears Hookers (4-1-0-1) vs. Fresh Kills (2-4)
Location: Tompkins East, 6:30 PM
All-Time Series: Corlears Hookers lead 2-1
Game Notes: For the first time since the 2008 BTSH championship game, these two Rubens Division rivals will square off in Sunday’s prime-time matchup.  The Corlears Hookers have performed as expected this season, as they have continued to dominate most of their opponents.  However, they have been plagued by low attendance nearly every week, which has been a contributing factor in their two losses.  Fresh Kills’ season has been a bit of a disappointment thus far.  After splitting their first two games on the road, they returned home to raise their championship banner and gain a much needed win against the Tuques.  Since that day, however, they have lost three games in a row and sit at 13th in the standings.  Although Fresh Kills is the clear underdog here, they have thrived when counted out in the past, as they were in a similar position entering last year’s championship game.
Keys To The Game:
1.  Corlears Hookers forward Jason Eitel is tied for the league lead with nine goals.  He was not present for the 2008 championship game and is planning to make amends for that.
2. Fresh Kills defender turned forward Bob “Olmec” Weyersberg now has two goals on the season and won’t shut up about it.  He boasts, “No one can stop me.  I have the most accurate outside shot in the league and my presence near the crease cannot be matched.”
3. In order to combat his team’s pereceived negative image, Corlears Hookers captain Peter “Purple Rain” Putka has introduced a series of promotional days throughout the season.  This Sunday, the first 20 fans under the age of 12 will receieve a free Albert “Al” Huang Trapper Keeper, which will hopefully showcase the Hookers’ commitment to education.
Eli’s Pick: Corlears Hookers.  A big game is expected out of Huang on his promotional day…that is, if he’s allowed off the bench.
Derek’s Pick: Corlears Hookers.  Revenge will only be temporarily sweet as Fresh Kills still holds the more important win.

Dark Rainbows (5-1) vs. Mighty Squirrels (2-4)
Location: Tompkins East, 2:00 PM
All-Time Series: Dark Rainbows lead 6-0
Game Notes: The Dark Rainbows have now won their last five games in a row, including a huge victory over previously undefeated Filthy Gorgeous last week.  The Mighty Squirrels are now on a three-game losing streak and have notched only one goal in that span.
Eli’s Pick: No Pick. Eli will be reffing this game.
Derek’s Pick: Dark Rainbows.  They’re looking like the Rainbows of 2007 these days.

Rehabs (5-1) vs. Cobra Kai (1-4-0-1)
Location: Tompkins West, 2:00 PM
All-Time Series: Rehabs lead 3-1
Game Notes: In addition to their overarching goal of helping the Rehabs secure a BTSH championship, league sideshows Hector “$howT!m3” Melendez and Sean “$howJu” McClain have placed a gentleman’s wager on their individual performances for the year.  If McClain outscores Melendez, the rookie will win the right to the “$howT!m3” moniker in 2010, and Melendez will be forced to use “$howJu”.
Eli’s Pick: Rehabs.  Alex “Villano VI” Zabala is uneffected by this bet.
Derek’s Pick: Rehabs.  Some say Juan “d@ $how” Garcia will outscore both of them.

LBS, Inc. (3-3) vs. Mathematics (2-2-1-1)
Location: Tompkins East, 3:00 PM
All-Time Series: LBS, Inc. leads 2-1
Game Notes: An interesting backstory to this game is the remarkable similarities between the last names of LBS, Inc. sniper “The Alpha Male” Ken Poulin and Mathematics goon Georgine “Mulva” Paulin.  However, the two are not related.

Mega Touch (0-5-1) vs. Happy Little Elves (3-3)
Location: Tompkins West, 3:00 PM
All-Time Series: Tied 1-1
Game Notes: For the first time since week 11 of the 2008 season, the Happy Little Elves enter a game with more wins than their opponent does.  However, history is not on their side, as they were defeated that week by none other than the Mega Touch (then Bad Touch).
Eli’s Pick: Happy Little Elves.  No comment.
Derek’s Pick: Happy Little Elves

Unicorns (4-2) vs. Mexican Standoff (0-6)
Location: Tompkins East, 4:00 PM
All-Time Series: Unicorns lead 9-0
Game Notes: After a stunning upset at the hands of league laughing-stocks the Happy Little Elves, the Unicorns seem to be back on track.  They immediately rebounded from the loss by upsetting the Corlears Hookers the following week and notched a solid win against Mega Touch in their last game.  With a huge Woodsworth Division game against Filthy Gorgeous looming next weekend, the Unicorns will have to avoid getting complacent against an underrated Mexican Standoff team.
Eli’s Pick: Unicorns
Derek’s Pick: Unicorns.  Christian keeps his team focused in the trap game.

Gouging Anklebiters (2-3-1) vs. What The Puck (6-0)
Location: Tompkins West, 4:00 PM
All-Time Series: What The Puck leads 6-4
Game Notes: What The Puck faced their toughest test to date last game, as they squeaked by LBS, Inc. 3-2.  Although the three goals were the fewest they’ve scored all season, it is clear that it will take a flawless effort to defeat Mad Dog’s dream team.
Eli’s Pick: What The Puck.  No one puts his foot down on Larry.
Derek’s Pick: What The Puck

Sky Fighters (4-2) vs. Tuques (0-6)
Location: Tompkins East, 5:30 PM
All-Time Series: Sky Fighters lead 7-5
Game Notes: Sky Fighters captain Dan Hopper is thrilled that his hometown Pittsburgh Penguins have reached the Stanley Cup Finals for the second straight year.  However, this could cause an interesting conflict of interest as he will have to shoot against Tuques goalie Minkus, who wears a Penguins sticker on his helmet.
Eli’s Pick: Sky Fighters.  Martin “Ocho Cinco” Cejka has no conflict of interest and will fire at will.
Derek’s Pick: Sky Fighters.  With team heart and soul Chris “Big Sexy” Shumaker’s hometown Red Wings also in the finals, the Sky Fighters may also have to overcome some intra-team turmoil.

Filthy Gorgeous (5-1) vs. Denim Demons (4-0-1-1)
Location: Tompkins West, 5:30 PM
All-Time Series: Tied 2-2
Game Notes: Filthy Gorgeous captain Monica Russo and Denim Demons captain Adam “Legend Killer” Rubens have been feuding since the two of them co-coached the BTSH Eastern All-Stars to a loss last season, as each blames the other for the defeat.  With tensions high, Russo struck the first blow in their tiff when Filthy took down the Demons in the quarterfinals of the 2008 playoffs.
Eli’s Pick: Filthy Gorgeous.  Russo is still upset about Rubens’ proposed Jim Dandeneau for “Gentleman” James Pereira trade.
Derek’s Pick: Filthy Gorgeous

Media Records:
Eli: 36-9
Derek: 30-15
