Week 6 Preview

The Sky Fighters Are Hungry For A Win

Big Sexy's Hungry

GAME OF THE WEEK
Sky Fighters (3-1)Ā vs. Dark Rainbows (3-1)
Location: Tompkins East, 2:00 PM
All-Time Series: Dark Rainbows lead 3-2
Game Notes: After a successful 2008 campaign, the Sky Fighters have continued to wow a once skeptical BTSH crowd.Ā  They have won three of their first four games, with the lone blemish coming at the hands of the What The Puck juggernaut.Ā  Under the smashmouth approach of captains Amy Lott and Dan Hopper, their staunch defense has only yielded seven goals so far this season, highlighted by holding What The Puck to its lowest one game total.Ā  Unlike the rising Sky Fighters, the Dark Rainbows have been perennial contenders for several seasons.Ā  After a season opening loss, they have won their last three games in a row and seem poised to once again finish towards the top of the standings.Ā  They boast an extremely balanced and deep offensive attack, as their 12 goals have been scored by seven different players.Ā  The outcome of this Schloeder Division game will likely hinge on whether the Sky Fighters’ vaunted defense can hold the Rainbows’ multi-dimensionalĀ offense in check.
Keys To The Game:
1. Despite the Sky Fighters claims otherwise, defender Martin “Ocho Cinco” Cejka is the primary component of their offensive attack.Ā  His seven goals represent half of their total scoring.
2. Trevor “White Jesus” Tyrrell’s transition back to offense has gone swimmingly.Ā  He now leads the Rainbows in scoring with three goals.
3. Dark Rainbows captain Sean Reynolds is brimming with confidence.Ā  He boasts, “We wear pink and it’s Mother’s Day.Ā  How can we lose?”
Eliā€™s Pick: Dark Rainbows.Ā  Sean’s logic works for me.
Derekā€™s Pick: Sky Fighters.Ā  Sean’s logic would work better for me if their jerseys weren’t faded to white.

Mega Touch (0-3-1) vs. Rehabs (3-1)
Location: Tompkins West, 2:00 PM
All-Time Series: Rehabs lead 6-4
Game Notes: While much ado is madeĀ of Alex “Villano VI” Zabala and Hector “$howT!m3” Melendez’s history with the Unicorns, they also have a history with Mega Touch.Ā  Former teammate Alex “Coop” Eben Meyer has been directed by captain Eric Devlin to “take care” of this dynamic duo.
Eliā€™s Pick: Rehabs.Ā  Coop fails to grasp the meaning of “take care”.
Derek’s Pick: Rehabs

Denim Demons (3-0-0-1) vs. Gouging Anklebiters (2-2)
Location: Tompkins East, 3:00 PM
All-Time Series: Tied, 5-5
Game Notes: After an extremely hot start, the Gouging Anklebiters looked poised to make a legitimate run at the Schloeder Division crown.Ā  However, with two straight losses,Ā they are now searching for answers.Ā  Although the Denim Demons have earned at least a point in each of their first four games, they looked shaky against a struggling Mexican Standoff in their most recent contest.
Eliā€™s Pick: Denim Demons
Derek’s Pick: Denim Demons.Ā  After the Demons barely escaped their last game, captain Adam “Legend Killer” Rubens organized several two-a-day practices to help them regain their form.

Mighty Squirrels (2-2) vs. What The Puck (4-0)
Location: Tompkins West, 3:00 PM
All-Time Series: What The Puck leads 4-0
Game Notes: What The PuckĀ has takenĀ a lotĀ heat this season for fielding their super squad.Ā  To counter this notion, the players plan to remind BTSH that they are really a family-oriented team by honoring teammate Celine Dujeux on her first Mother’s Day.Ā  As of yet, no plans have been made on how captain Larry “Mad Dog” Zimmer will celebrate Father’s Day with hisĀ 11 kids.
Eliā€™s Pick: What The Puck
Derek’s Pick: What The Puck

Fresh Kills (2-2) vs. Filthy Gorgeous (4-0)
Location: Tompkins East, 4:00 PM
All-Time Series: Filthy Gorgeous leads 3-0
Game Notes: Filthy Gorgeous’ fifth gameĀ marks the culmination of a plan that captain Monica Russo has been hatching since opening day.Ā  Constantly on the lookout for ways to get an edge on the competition, she readily offered goalie Dan “D.O” OwensĀ as a substitute when Fresh Kills was in need.Ā  Although Owens’ help led to one of Fresh Kills’ two wins, he now returns with a full scouting report of every player on the defending champs.
Eliā€™s Pick: Filthy Gorgeous.Ā  Brilliance, Monica.Ā  Pure brilliance.
Derek’s Pick: Filthy Gorgeous…because Michelle told me to pick them.

Tuques (0-4) vs. Mathematics (0-2-1-1)
Location: Tompkins West, 4:00 PM
All-Time Series: Mathematics lead 2-1
Game Notes: Both of these Woodsworth Division rivals are still looking for their first win of the season.Ā  The Mathematics do, however, have two points via a shootout loss and tie…so that’s kind of like a win…

LBS, Inc. (2-2) vs. Mexican Standoff (0-4)
Location: Tompkins East, 5:00 PM
All-Time Series: LBS, Inc. leads 6-0
Game Notes: These two Schloeder Division foes have a strong dislike for one another, dating back to the infamous 2006 Standoff Beach Day.Ā  The current forecast for Sunday calls for clear skies, but there will still be too much of a spring chill in the airĀ to make a day at the beach a viable option.
Eliā€™s Pick: LBS, Inc. This will not be a day at the beach for Standoff.
Derek’s Pick: LBS, Inc.Ā  Jefferson of Standoff is “looking forward” to this game.Ā

Unicorns (2-2) vs. Corlears Hookers (3-1)
Location: Tompkins West, 5:00 PM
All-Time Series: Corlears Hookers lead 2-0
Game Notes: Attendance issues finally caught up with the Corlears Hookers in there most recent game, a 3-1 loss to the Rehabs.Ā  In order to boost the team’s turnout, captain Peter “Purple Rain” Putka has offered a free Jason Eitel pog to anyone who shows up.
Eliā€™s Pick: Corlears Hookers. Even Dutch can’t turn down a Jason Eitel pog.
Derek’s Pick: Corlears Hookers

Cobra Kai (1-3) vs. Happy Little Elves (1-3)
Location: Tompkins East, 6:00 PM
All-Time Series: Cobra Kai leads 1-0
Game Notes: The Happy Little Elves are still riding the emotional high from their first regular season win in more than a year.Ā  However, the team remains down that it was unable to wrest control of the prestigious (yet imaginary) Fairy Tale Cup from the Unicorns.Ā  On the bright side, the team may still be able to capture a traveling trophy.Ā  This Rubens DivisionĀ game will represent the first leg of the Barnacle Bowl, named after former Dojo and Elf great, Jonathan “The Barnacle” Levine.
Eliā€™s Pick: Cobra Kai.Ā  I question the Elves’ desire for this trophy.
Derek’s Pick: Happy Little Elves.Ā  Did I really just take the Elves?

Media Records:
Eli: 25-5
Derek: 20-10
