Week 4 Preview

Will Made Sure We Got His “Good” Side

GAME OF THE WEEK
Cobra Kai (2-0) at Corlears Hookers (1-1)
Location: Tompkins West, 1:00 PM
All-Time Series: Corlears Hookers lead 3-1
Game Notes: Cobra Kai is on top of the world, as well as the Donohue Division, as the team is off to the best start in its five season history.  In week 1, the Dojo rallied from a halftime deficit against La Famiglia to secure its first opening day victory ever.  The momentum carried to week 2, when Cobra Kai notched a solid win over Mega Touch.  The Corlears Hookers also won their first game of the season with an impressive triumph over Rubens Division rival LBS, Inc.  However, the Hookers stubbed their proverbial toes in week 2 with a stunning loss to the underrated, yet generally uninspiring, Happy Little Elves.  After overlooking the Elves, have the Hookers learned their lesson as they take on a much improved Cobra Kai team?
Keys To The Game:
1. For the second straight season, Will Kuhns leads Cobra Kai’s offensive attack.  He has scored two goals in each of the team’s first two games and attributes his success to his camouflage t-shirt, which he claims keeps him hidden from the opposing defense’s view.
2. Jason Eitel led the Corlears Hookers with 22 goals in the 2009 season, but has missed the team’s first two games due to a long bout with measles.  However, he was granted a clean bill of health earlier this week by team doctor Josh “Doc” Sadlier-Brown and is now listed as probable.
3. Cobra Kai and the Corlears Hookers last met in week 21 of the 2009 season.  The Dojo prevailed in a shootout 4-3, even though the afternoon was otherwise marred by “rain fears”.
Eli’s Pick: Corlears Hookers.  They rarely lose two games in a row.
Derek’s Pick: Corlears Hookers.  Eitel should have a big game if he does return.
Watchability: 3.5 Biagionis.

Fresh Kills (1-0-0-1) at Butchers (0-1-0-1)
Location: Tompkins East, 1:00 PM
All-Time Series: First Meeting
Game Notes: Fresh Kills and the Butchers each enter this game coming off of separate 2-1 shootout losses.  Fresh Kills rallied late to salvage a point against Schumacher Conference foe Gut Rot, while the Butchers relinquished a second-half lead against the Gouging Anklebiters in a Donohue Division contest.
Eli’s Pick: Fresh Kills
Derek’s Pick: Fresh Kills.  According to a stat I just made up, Fresh Kills plays a lot better earlier in the day.
Watchability:3.5 Biagionis

La Famiglia (0-2) at LBS, Inc. (0-2)
Location: Tompkins East, 2:00 PM
All-Time Series: LBS, Inc. leads 8-1
Game Notes: With expectations high for La Famiglia and LBS, Inc. at the beginning of the season, they will both look to avoid going 0-3.  La Famiglia is especially looking forward to this game, as Sunday is BTSH Family Day.  To celebrate, captain Dave Ladanyi is honoring his entire team, as he considers all of them his family, except for rookie Kevin Prestia, whom he still doesn’t know all that well.
Eli’s Pick: LBS, Inc.  There is no room for family inside the Boardroom.
Derek’s Pick: LBS, Inc.
Watchability: 3 Biagionis

Rehabs (2-0) at Filthy Gorgeous (1-1)
Location: Tompkins West, 2:00 PM
All-Time Series: Rehabs lead 3-2
Game Notes: “Con” Ed Lau of the Rehabs and Liza Watts of Filthy Gorgeous are running the annual tournament this Saturday to benefit the American Cancer Society.  As such, in lieu of a game preview, here is the link to sign up…in case you missed the first 24 times it’s been posted.
Eli’s Pick: Rehabs.  They beat a pretty good team in their last game.
Derek’s Pick: Filthy Gorgeous.  The Pereira-Malik-Kravis line finally penetrates the ‘habs fearsome D.
Watchability: 4 Biagionis

Unicorns (2-0) at Tompkins Square Riots (2-0)
Location: Tompkins East, 3:00 PM
All-Time Series: First Meeting
Game Notes: The Unicorns and Riots are each a very quiet 2-0 heading into this inter-conference matchup.  Both teams have received very solid performances from their respective goalies so far, as the Unicorns’ Craig “Ug” LaCombe and Riots’ Dave Gil de Rubio have each recorded shutouts.
Eli’s Pick: Unicorns
Derek’s Pick: Unicorns.  Another solid game for LaCombe.
Watchability: 2.5 Biagionis

Happy Little Elves (1-0-0-1) at Mathematics (0-1-0-1)
Location: Tompkins West, 3:00 PM
All-Time Series: Tied 1-1
Game Notes: The Mathematics-run media mercilessly (though justifiably) mocked the Elves for the first half of the 2009 season, but eased up after their team lost to the Elves last summer.  In fact, the media have recently put forth several pro-Elf initiatives including profiling noted Strong Islander Rob “Smash” Muggeo in Know Your Neighbor, honoring Rich Glanzer and “The Chairman” Ben Chadwick as the 2009 Best Duo, publishing Dr. Byron Clavicle’s manifesto, signing Elf superfan $howT!m3, selecting the Elves for week 3’s Game of the Week, and finally, writing this glowing game preview.
Watchability: 2.5 Biagionis.  Will the Elves be caught looking ahead to their Week 5 Fairy Tale Cup matchup with the Dark Rainbows?

Dark Rainbows (0-2) at Gouging Anklebiters (1-1)
Location: Tompkins East, 4:30 PM
All-Time Series: Dark Rainbows lead 6-0
Game Notes: Captains Sean Reynolds of the Rainbows and Phil “Sandy” Donohue of the Anklebiters have promised a throwback to the “good old days” with a good, clean game.  After hearing of this pledge, notorious Anklebiter goon Caroline Morrissey-Bickerton is questioning whether she wants to play in such a friendly and spirited exhibition.
Eli’s Pick: Dark Rainbows
Derek’s Pick: Dark Rainbows
Watchability: 3.5 Biagionis…because everyone likes to see a clean, competitive game.

Poutine Machine (1-1) at Gut Rot (1-1)
Location: Tompkins West, 4:30 PM
All-Time Series: First Meeting
Game Notes: Now that the Ottawa Senators have officially been eliminated from the NHL playoffs, Poutine Machine captain and Ottawa native Patrick “Sven” Larsen is pleased to announce the following additions to his team: Daniel Alfredsson, Jason Spezza, Chris Neil, and Nick Foligno.  In response, Gut Rot captain Jefferson Hendricks has announced he will add one of the fat guys from Nintendo’s Ice Hockey.
Eli’s Pick: Gut Rot.  All of Larsen’s new players will be at the IIHF World Championships.
Derek’s Pick: No pick.  Derek will be reffing this game.
Watchability: 2 Biagionis

Denim Demons (2-0) at What The Puck (2-0)
Location: Tompkins East, 5:30 PM
All-Time Series: What The Puck leads 10-3
Game Notes: In the Demons’ last game, goalie Aaron “Coach” Pagdon was so hung over that he was literally bleeding from his eyeballs, and at one point was flopping around in the crease like a gaffed trout. He then hit his head on the crossbar while trying to get up and fell back down as a Tuques La Famiglia player, given a 45-second wide open look, hit the post. Now, don’t get me wrong. It’s moments like this one that make BTSH great.  Just don’t expect anyone on What the Puck to miss a wide open net like that. This game is impossible to call until we know Coach’s Saturday night plans, but the game promises to be a good one regardless. It looks from here like WTP just has too much firepower, however.

Mega Touch (1-1) at Sky Fighters (0-2)
Location: Tompkins West, 5:30 PM
All-Time Series: Mega Touch leads 5-4
Game Notes: Did I read that right? Mega Touch actually leads the all time series in this one? That must date from the dark days of 2005 to 2008, in between the two Sky Fighter title runs, when then-GM Isiah Thomas presided over a series of bad drafts, terrible contracts, and salary cap mismanagement.

Wait, we’re not talking about the Knicks? Sorry.

The Fighters, still stewing from an 0-2 start, must REALLY be itching to lay a beatdown on someone after last week’s rainout. Pity the Mega Touch fools.
Vegas Line: Sky Fighters by 2.5
