Week 3 Preview

It’s Always A Good Time In The Schloeder Division

Amy and Mungo

GAME OF THE WEEK
Mighty Squirrels (1-1) vs. Gouging Anklebiters (2-0)
Location: Tompkins West, 4:00 PM
All-Time Series: Mighty Squirrels lead 4-1-1
Game Notes: The Mighty Squirrels snapped a 12-game losing streak last week with a solid win against Mexican Standoff.Ā  After lying dormant for 75 minutes of play, the Squirrels’ offense finally awoke when Arthur “Lil Weezy” Revechkis scored their first goal of the 2009 season.Ā  Also promising was new goalie Eric Ramirez, who made a splash in his debut, holding the potent Standoff offense to no goals.Ā  With their two victories to open the season, the Gouging Anklebiters are already halfway to equaling their four wins from 2008.Ā  Their latest win, a stunning upset over the Rehabs, proves that the Anklebiters are putting their foot down and can no longer be taken lightly.Ā  The Anklebiters will look to stay undefeated as they face a familiar Schloeder Division foe.
Keys To The Game:
1. Nestor Nonato’s return to BTSH has buoyed theĀ attack of the Gouging Anklebiters.Ā  His offensive prowess has beenĀ a key component to their fast start.
2. Despite getting a little dinged up last week (as usual), Mighty Squirrels shutdown defender Marie Marberg is probable for this game.
3.Ā  Eric “El Guapo” DiPierri scored the game-winning goal for the Anklebiters last week.Ā  However, captain Phil “Sandy” Donohue remains steadfast in keeping him relegated to the eighth line.
Eliā€™s Pick: Gouging Anklebiters.Ā  Another win or two and Charles DeFranco might even start talking some trash.
Derekā€™s Pick: Mighty Squirrels.Ā  Tim “(S)crappy” Gray has been conspicuously absent so far this season.Ā  This can only mean good things for the Squirrels.

What The Puck (2-0) vs. Sky Fighters (2-0)
Location: Tompkins East, 1:00 PM
All-Time Series: Sky Fighters lead 6-1
Game Notes: This is the only battle between unbeaten teams on the Week 3 schedule.Ā  What The Puck has to yet to allow a goal this season.
Eliā€™s Pick: What The Puck…but the shutout streak ends.
Derekā€™s Pick: What The Puck

Rehabs (1-1) vs. Unicorns (2-0)
Location: Tompkins West, 1:00 PM
All-Time Series: Rehabs lead 8-6-1
Game Notes: This Sunday is Hector “$howT!m3” Melendez’s 26th birthday and as a gift, he will get the opportunity to take on his former team.Ā  $howT!m3’s teammate Alex “Villano VI” Zabala also has a history with the Unicorns…but it isn’t his birthday.
Eliā€™s Pick: Rehabs. $howT!m3 can’t lose on his birthday, right?
Derekā€™s Pick: Unicorns.Ā  Yes he can.

Happy Little Elves (0-2) vs. Corlears Hookers (2-0)
Location: Tompkins East, 2:00 PM
All-Time Series: Corlears Hookers lead 1-0
Game Notes: Although many might write off the Elves fairly quickly in this contest, they took the Corlears Hookers to a shootout in their 2008 matchup.Ā  Despite their record, the Elves are playing competitive hockey, as both of their losses this season have been by only one goal.
Eliā€™s Pick: Corlears Hookers
Derekā€™s Pick: Corlears Hookers.Ā  According to the Mad Dog, the Hookers are the “LZ Lock of the Week” (see below), so who am I to argue with that?

Mexican Standoff (0-2) vs. Filthy Gorgeous (2-0)
Location: Tompkins West, 2:00 PM
All-Time Series: Filthy Gorgeous leads 3-0
Game Notes: Due to a scoring correction, Filthy Gorgeous forward James Pereira is now tied for the league lead in goals with five. Ā  Co-leader Martin “Ocho Cinco” Cejka of Sky Fighters is not happy about the situation.
Eliā€™s Pick: Filthy Gorgeous…unless Standoff somehow acquires Cejka.
Derek’s Pick: No Pick.Ā  Derek will be reffing this game.

Cobra Kai (0-2) vs. Denim Demons (1-0-0-1)
Location: Tompkins East, 3:00 PM
All-Time Series: Denim Demons lead 2-0-1
Game Notes: After a heartbreaking loss in a shootout last week, the Denim Demons will look to regain momentum against a struggling Rubens Division opponent.Ā  However, it is questionable whether the Demons will be 100% focused, as they may be more concerned with the Rock Band tournament later in the day.
Eliā€™s Pick: Denim Demons. The rumor is that the Demons’ first goal will be celebrated with an air guitar solo.
Derekā€™s Pick: Denim Demons

Mathematics (0-1-0-1) vs. Mega Touch (0-2)
Location: Tompkins West, 3:00 PM
All-Time Series: Mathematics lead 4-1
Game Notes: This game will settle once and for all who has the better hair: Andy Pratt or Alex “Coop” Eben Meyer.

LBS, Inc. (1-1) vs. Dark Rainbows (1-1)
Location: Tompkins East, 4:00 PM
All-Time Series: LBS, Inc. leads 6-4-1
Game Notes: “The Alpha Male” Ken Poulin of LBS, Inc. has no problem with the Dark Rainbows, because they wear pink.Ā  This will be the Dark Rainbows’ inaugural Schloeder Division game.
Eli’s Pick: No Pick. Eli will be reffing this game.
Derekā€™s Pick: LBS, Inc.

Fresh Kills (1-1) vs. Tuques (0-2)
Location: Tompkins East, 5:00 PM
All-Time Series: Fresh Kills leads 10-1
Game Notes: This will be the Fresh Kills’ first home game of the season.Ā  As tradition dictates, they will raise their championship banner over the court and present each team member with a commemorative ring.Ā Ā The Tuques will be given a replica Fresh Kills banner if they are among the first 20,000 in attendance.
Eliā€™s Pick: Fresh Kills
Derekā€™s Pick: Fresh Kills.Ā  With all of the pre-game festivities, will the fans finally get a chance to see “Hollywood” Jeff Lesser?

Media Records:
Eli: 12-3
Derek: 11-4
