Week 18 Preview

At Least It’s Not The Feldman Division

GAME OF THE WEEK
Dark Rainbows (8-5-0-2) at Rehabs (9-5-0-1)
Location: Tompkins East, 2:00 PM
All-Time Series: Dark Rainbows lead 5-4
Game Notes: Two teams in contention for the Hackett Division crown face off for the first time this year on the final Sunday of the regular season.  After leading the division for the last few months, the Dark Rainbows now find themselves in third behind the Rehabs and Happy Little Elves.  However, a Dark Rainbows win and a Happy Little Elves loss or tie is all the Rainbows need to claim the division.  The Rehabs, on the other hand, have the benefit of being in control of their own destiny.  If they defeat the Rainbows, they win the division.  In addition, if they tie and the Happy Little Elves lose or tie, they would still win the division.  Of course, regardless of the exact order of finish within the Hackett Division, the Dark Rainbows, Rehabs, and Happy Little Elves should all enter the playoffs with a fairly high seed.
Keys To The Game:
1. Dark Rainbows captain Sean Reynolds has already assigned teammate John Nielsen with the task of adding an extension to the Rainbows’ trophy case.  Reynolds has noted that he fully expects it to house the Hackett Division trophy as well as the Fairy Tale Cup and 2007 championship trophy following this game.
2. The Rehabs recent five-game winning streak has coincided with the addition of explosive newcomer Brock Bosacker.  He has already chipped in six goals in his short time with the team, and is reminiscent of a young Adam Skuse in 2009.
3. Due to “rain fears,” the first meeting of the season between these teams was canceled.  Their last meeting was in Week 20 of the 2009 season, when the Rehabs defeated the Dark Rainbows 6-3.  “The All-American Canadian” Adam Skuse tallied a hat trick in that game.
Eli’s Pick: Rehabs.  This result will save all of us from a deluge of potential Elves gloating.
Derek’s Pick: Rehabs.  The division trophy presentation is tentatively scheduled to take place at Anita Khar’s beach house on the Connecticut shoreline.
Watchability: 4.5 Meyers.  The Elves will be watching this one intently.

LBS, Inc. (7-7-0-1) at Unicorns (6-8)
Location: Tompkins East, 12:00 PM
All-Time Series: LBS, Inc. leads 9-6
Game Notes: After being placed in the league’s toughest division, LBS, Inc. has taken a step back this season.  However, after winning five of its last seven games, the Corporation could move above .500 for the first time all season with a win.  The Unicorns have a shot at .500 themselves if they win this game, and their potential makeup game against Poutine Machine on Friday.
Eli’s Pick: LBS, Inc.  With both Karsten Pichon and “The Alpha Male” Ken Poulin gunning for the scoring title, expect the Corporation to put a lot of shots on net.
Derek’s Pick: LBS, Inc.
Watchability: 3.5 Meyers

Tompkins Square Riots (7-7-1) at Gut Rot (4-9-0-2)
Location: Tompkins West, 12:00 PM
All-Time Series: Tompkins Square Riots lead 1-0
Game Notes: These two teams faced off in Week 8, when the Tompkins Square Riots defeated Gut Rot 5-1.  Alexandre Frenette recorded a hat trick and Patrik Blohmé added two goals for the Riots.  The Riots can clinch the MacNeil Division, and the #4 seed in the playoffs, with a win, tie, or overtime/shootout loss.  Gut Rot can finish as high as the #17 seed and as low as the #20 seed.
Eli’s Pick: Gut Rot
Derek’s Pick: Gut Rot.  They are clearly the better team.  The Riots don’t stand a chance and should not even bother to show up.
Watchability: 3 Meyers

Corlears Hookers (10-4) at Denim Demons (13-2)
Location: Tompkins East, 1:00 PM
All-Time Series: Corlears Hookers lead 3-2
Game Notes: Despite having their 11-game winning streak snapped last Sunday by the Happy Little Elves, the Denim Demons have already secured the Rubens Division title and the #1 seed in the playoffs.  In Week 10, Zack Tinkelman scored four times as the Demons spanked the Corlears Hookers 9-1.  The Corlears Hookers can secure the #5 seed with a win.
Eli’s Pick: Denim Demons.  They relish the chance to damage the Hookers’ seeding.
Derek’s Pick: Corlears Hookers.  They have a lot more to play for in this game.
Watchability: 4 Meyers

Gouging Anklebiters (5-10) at Poutine Machine (5-8-0-1)
Location: Tompkins West, 1:00 PM
All-Time Series: First Meeting
Game Notes: Both the Gouging Anklebiters and Poutine Machine have struggled this season, and as a result, both are guaranteed to play in the opening round of the playoffs on October 3.
Eli’s Pick: Gouging Anklebiters. If this game were at noon, I would pick Poutine Machine.
Derek’s Pick: Gouging Anklebiters
Watchability: 2 Meyers

Mathematics (6-7-0-2) at Mega Touch (5-9-1)
Location: Tompkins West, 2:00 PM
All-Time Series: Mathematics lead 6-2-1
Game Notes: The Mathematics beat Mega Touch 3-2 in Week 8, as Bradley Schmidt scored two goals, including the game-winner. If the Riots lose to Gut Rot in regulation, the Mathematics can clinch the MacNeil Division and the #4 seed in the playoffs with a win. Mega Touch can finish as high as the #16 seed and as low as the #20 seed.
Watchability: 3 Meyers.  This rating may fluctuate depending on the outcome of the Riots’ game.

What The Puck (8-6) at Filthy Gorgeous (9-5-0-1)
Location: Tompkins East, 3:00 PM
All-Time Series: Filthy Gorgeous leads 4-2
Game Notes: These Rubens Division foes last met in Week 10, when Filthy Gorgeous doubled up What The Puck 4-2.  The loss was just the beginning of WTP’s downward spiral, as they have lost five of six games since then.  Filthy Gorgeous can finish as high as the #5 seed and as low as the #8 seed, while What The Puck can finish as high as the #8 seed and as low as the #13 seed.
Eli’s Pick: Filthy Gorgeous.  They are too strong for a depleted What The Puck squad.
Derek’s Pick: Filthy Gorgeous
Watchability: 3.5 Meyers

La Famiglia (8-7) at Butchers (4-7-0-4)
Location: Tompkins West, 3:00 PM
All-Time Series: La Famiglia leads 1-0
Game Notes: These Donohue Division opponents last met in a thrilling Week 13 affair.  “The Charasmatics Enigma” Arthur Revechkis scored twice in the final minutes for the Butchers to send the game to overtime, but La Famiglia was ultimately victorious on the strength of a game-winning goal from Dmitry Gurvits.
Eli’s Pick: La Famiglia.  Six straight wins makes them BTSH’s hottest team.
Derek’s Pick: La Famiglia.  They are already BTSH’s hottest teams without the wins.
Watchability: 3 Meyers

HOCKEY NIGHT IN TOMPKINS (National Telecast)
Sky Fighters (8-6-0-1) at Happy Little Elves (8-4-0-3)
Location: Tompkins East, 4:30 PM
All-Time Series: Happy Little Elves lead 2-1
Game Notes: In their previous two wins against the Sky Fighters, Rich Glanzer of the Happy Little Elves called a timeout at a pivotal moment, and the Elves scored shortly thereafter.  Expect Rich to call a timeout again this Sunday, and if the Elves score as a result, we will never hear the end of it.

HOCKEY NIGHT IN TOMPKINS (Regional Telecast)
Cobra Kai (8-7) at Fresh Kills (9-4-0-2)
Location: Tompkins West, 4:30 PM
All-Time Series: Fresh Kills leads 6-1-1
Game Notes: Fresh Kills has clinched the Donohue Division and #3 seed in the playoffs, but they still have something to play for this Sunday.  In Week 8, Cobra Kai beat Fresh Kills 5-2, a loss that Fresh Kills considers their most embarrassing of the season.
