Week 16 Preview

The Unicorns Are Planning Another Upset

Unis Table

GAME OF THE WEEK
Unicorns (8-6) vs. What The Puck (11-3)
Location: Tompkins West, 2:00 PM
All-Time Series: Tied 7-7
Game Notes: What The Puck captain Larry “Mad Dog” Zimmer has had this game circled on his calendar for a month and a half.Ā  Week 11 saw What The Puck swagger into theĀ first matchup between these Woodsworth Divisioin rivals, undefeated and cocky.Ā  However, with Adriano “Muscles Marinara” on the disabled list for Larry’s Orange Juggernaut, the Unicorns were victoriousĀ 3-2, handing WTP its first loss of the season.Ā  Since then, both teams have struggled, as the Unicorns have gone 1-3, and What The Puck has gone 2-2.Ā  Each team will look to shake out of the doldrums in this pivotal divisional tilt.
Keys To The Game:
1. After a four-game absence, What The Puck forward Adriano “Muscles Marinara” Bratta returned with a bang, scoring five goals in the team’s 10-2 victory over Mega Touch last week.Ā  He is now the league’s second leading scorer with 17 goals on the season.
2. Although it is difficult to tell by just their first names, Unicorns 2009 acquisitions Susanna and Victoria are indeed sisters.Ā  Thus, they possess a chemistry on the court that few will ever comprehend.
3. With the Mad Dog out of town, Mike “TheĀ X-Factor” Woodsworth took over the reins of captain for What The Puck last week.Ā  Is this a sign of a potential power struggle in the future?
Eliā€™s Pick: What The Puck.Ā Larry will not let his team lose twice to the same opponent.
Derekā€™s Pick: What The Puck.Ā  They looked very impressive last week, and that was with onlyl half the roster present.
Watchability: 4 Ventolieris.Ā  It would have been 5, but Ant is playing in this game.

Mathematics (3-7-1-3) vs. Filthy Gorgeous (9-3-1)
Location: Tompkins East, 2:00 PM
All-Time Series: Filthy Gorgeous leads 3-2
Game Notes: These two Woodsworth Division foes met just a scant three weeks ago in one of the most entertaining games of the season.Ā  With the Mathematics leading late in the game, Filthy Gorgeous scored two goals in the final three minutes of regulation–including one with its goalie pulled–to force overtime.Ā  Filthy’s star forward Suvin “The Guru” Malik completed the comeback with the game-winner one minute into the extra period.
Watchability: 2.5 Ventolieris

Gouging Anklebiters (6-7-1) vs. Mighty Squirrels (5-8-1)
Location: Tompkins East, 3:00 PM
All-Time Series: Mighty Squirrels lead 5-1-1
Game Notes: After allowing eight goals to Cobra Kai’s Will Kuhns last week, the Mighty Squirrels’ defense will need to buckle down a little harder for this game.Ā  Upon learning of Kuhn’s good fortune, Anklebiters forward Charles DeFranco boasted, “If Will can put up eight, I’ll put up 16!”
Eliā€™s Pick: Mighty Squirrels. Mungo save.
Derekā€™s Pick: Gouging Anklebiters.Ā  If Chuck puts up 16, how can they lose?
Watchability: 3 Ventolieris

Corlears Hookers (9-2-1-1) vs. Dark Rainbows (10-2-0-1)
Location: Tompkins West, 3:00 PM
All-Time Series: Corlears Hookers lead 3-1
Game Notes: In this 2007 championship rematch, the third place Dark Rainbows and fourth place Corlears Hookers will renew one of BTSH’s burgeoning rivalries.Ā  When these teams last met, the Corlears Hookers bounced the Dark Rainbows from the 2008 playoffs, obliterating them 8-0 in the quarterfinals.
Eliā€™s Pick: Dark Rainbows
Derekā€™s Pick: Corlears Hookers.Ā  It seems like they have the Rainbows’ number of late.
Watchability: 4.5 Ventolieris

Sky Fighters (8-5) vs. LBS, Inc. (10-3)
Location: Tompkins East, 4:00 PM
All-Time Series: LBS, Inc. leads 7-3
Game Notes: Due to “rain fears”, both of theseĀ Schloeder Division squads received an unscheduled bye last week.Ā  This time off could prove detrimental for both teams, as the Sky Fighters are coming off their biggest win of the season (a 5-1 defeat of the Rainbows), while LBS, Inc. is in the midst of a seven-game winning streak.
Eliā€™s Pick: LBS, Inc.
Derekā€™s Pick: Sky Fighters
Watchability: 4 Ventolieris.Ā  Both teams are at the top of their game right now.

Mega Touch (3-10-1) vs. Denim Demons (9-0-2-2)
Location: Tompkins West, 4:00 PM
All-Time Series: Denim Demons lead 8-3
Game Notes: With little notable history between Mega Touch and the Demons to discuss, we instead bring you this clip from Demons sensation Abby Meisterman’s favorite movie, Summer School.
Eliā€™s Pick: Denim Demons
Derekā€™s Pick: Denim Demons
Watchability: 1.5 Ventolieris.Ā  We recommend watching the rest of Summer School instead.

Cobra Kai (3-9-1-1) vs. Rehabs (6-4-0-3)
Location: Tompkins East, 5:30 PM
All-Time Series: Rehabs lead 4-1
Game Notes: Cobra Kai’s only win in this series came in 2007 when Squirrels’ goalie Rob “Mungo” Gorden filled in for the Dojo and pitched a shutout.
Eliā€™s Pick: Rehabs.Ā  I’d wager dollars to donuts that Will Kuhns doesn’t score eight goalsĀ this week.
Derekā€™s Pick: Rehabs…unless Cobra Kai can get a hold of Mungo again.
Watchability: 2 Ventolieris

Fresh Kills (5-7-0-1) vs. Mexican Standoff (2-11-0-1)
Location: Tompkins West, 5:30 PM
All-Time Series: Fresh Kills leads 9-1
Game Notes: Mexican Standoff may have finally turned its season around, as the perennial underdog has now tallied seven goals in each of its last two games.Ā  In this two-game span, team scoring leader Ben has accounted for seven of his team’s goals.Ā  Conversely, Fresh Kills has slumped of late, losing its last three games, including two by shutout.
Eliā€™s Pick: Fresh Kills.Ā  The defending champs could really use a win.
Derekā€™s Pick: Fresh Kills
Watchability: 2.5 Ventolieris

HOCKEY NIGHT IN TOMPKINS
Tuques (4-10) vs. Happy Little Elves (6-7-1)
Location: Tompkins East, 6:30 PM
All-Time Series: Happy Little Elves lead 1-0
Game Notes: The Happy Little Elves have only positive memories of facing the Tuques.Ā  In their inaugural BTSH game, the Elves defeated the Tuques in what would eventually turn out to be their only regular season win of 2008.Ā  With of the ElvesĀ much improved this season, and the Tuques playing their best hockey right now, this Hockey Night in Tompkins matchup looks a lot more promising now than it did at the beginning of the season.
Eliā€™s Pick: Happy Little Elves…because it upsets them.
Derekā€™s Pick: Tuques.Ā  Tuques hockey.
Watchability: 3 Ventolieris

Media Records:
Eli: 60-32
Derek: 58-36
