Week 1 Preview

LLLLLLLLLLLLET’S GO!

Sunday, Sunday, Sunday

GAME OF THE WEEK

Corlears Hookers vs. Gouging Anklebiters
Location: Corlears North, 4:00 PM
All-Time Series: Corlears Hookers lead 2-0
Game Notes:
When these two teams last met, the Gouging Anklebiters nearly pulled off a monumental playoff upset.  However, with just fifteen seconds left in regulation, Peter “Purple Rain” Putka scored the equalizing goal to force overtime, where Gavin “Dutch’s Brother” Kearney scored the game winner.  Neither team experienced a lot of turnover in the offseason, so this will be a true playoff rematch.  A close, low-scoring game is expected.
Keys to the Game:
1.  Goalie “Quiet” Mike O’Connor held the explosive Corlears Hookers offense to only five goals in more than 100 minutes of play last season.  For the Anklebiters to have a chance, he must play well.
2. The Corlears Hookers are coming off of their longest losing streak ever.  Will the loss to the Rainbows still be in their heads?
3. Eric “El Guapo” DiPierri’s mother has promised him extra ice cream should the Anklebiters win.  He’ll be playing hard.
Eli’s Pick: Corlears Hookers.  Even the Anklebiters will readily admit that they historically start the season slowly.
Derek’s Pick: Corlears Hookers.  Congratulations to Dutch’s Brother, who’s expecting a child soon (who will be named Dutch’s Nephew/Niece).

Fresh Kills vs. Sky Fighters
Location: Corlears North, 3:00 PM
All-Time Series: Fresh Kills lead 6-5
Game Notes: The history makes this game look a lot closer than it probably will be.  This is not the Sky Fighters of old.
Eli’s Pick: Fresh Kills
Derek’s Pick: Fresh Kills

Unicorns vs. Denim Demons
Location: Corlears South, 3:00 PM
All-Time Series: Unicorns lead 5-3-2
Game Notes: In the ten games these teams have played, the final goal differential has never been more than one goal.  Expect a close game.
Eli’s Pick: Unicorns.  Ug is determined to beat Romeo for top goalie this season.
Derek’s Pick: Denim Demons.  The Unicorns’ loss of $howT!m3 and Villano VI, and the Demons’ loss of Ellery bode very well for the Fightin’ Rubens.

Happy Little Elves vs. Tuques
Location: Moffo, 3:00 PM
All-Time Series: First Meeting
Game Notes: Will there be growing pains for the Happy Little Elves?
Eli’s Pick: Tuques
Derek’s Pick: Tuques

Bad Touch vs. What The Puck
Location
: Corlears South, 4:00 PM
All-Time Series: What The Puck leads 8-2
Game Notes: Bad Touch has not beaten What the Puck since 2003.
Eli’s Pick: What the Puck
Derek’s Pick: What the Puck.  Coach Mad Dog will have his troops fired up for opening day.

LBS vs. Cobra Kai
Location: Moffo, 4:00 PM
All-Time Series: Tied 1-1
Game Notes: After being mercied in 2006, Cobra Kai stunned LBS in 2007 with a 4-2 win.  Ken “The Alpha Male” Poulin of LBS will be on the bench serving a suspension.
Eli’s Pick: LBS.  Even without The Alpha Male, LBS should have enough offense to withstand the new look Cobra Kai.
Derek’s Pick: LBS.  Cobra Kai added some serious talent in the offseason, but so did LBS.

Filthy Gorgeous vs. Dark Rainbows
Location
: Corlears North, 5:00 PM
All-Time Series: Dark Rainbows lead 2-0
Game Notes: Captain Sean Reynolds will present each member of the Rainbows with a championship ring prior to the game…except for Jonathan Rudd and Rachel Hulin, who were not on the team last season.
Eli’s Pick: Dark Rainbows.  Dan “Danny Abs” Abdo wishes he were here.
Derek’s Pick: Dark Rainbows

Mexican Standoff vs. Mathematics
Location
: Corlears South, 5:00 PM
All-Time Series: Mathematics lead 4-0
Game Notes: Sharif “The Chocolate Buzzsaw” Corinaldi promises to Soulja Boy if the Mathematics win.

Mighty Squirrels vs. Rehabs
Location
: Moffo, 5:00 PM
All-Time Series: Rehabs lead 3-1
Game Notes: $howT!m3 and Villano VI make their much anticipated debut for the Rehabs.  Marie Marberg of the Squirrels is listed as questionable with an undisclosed head injury.
Eli’s Pick: Rehabs.  This team is loaded.
Derek’s Pick: Rehabs

Media’s Records:
Eli: 0-0
Derek: 0-0
