The Games

COBRA KAI DOES IT FOR FLOUNDER. Inspired by an appearance from former teammate Brendan ‘Flounder’ Hay, Cobra Kai ended a four game losing streak with a 5-3 victory against the Bad Touch. Brian Morrison scored two goals, including the game winner, for Cobra Kai, who also received two goals from Mike ‘FLIP!’ Sanfilippo and one goal from Ray Chan. Bill MacGregor scored two goals for the Bad Touch, who also received one goal from Eric Devlin.

JAMES PERIERA WOULD LIKE TO WISH JAMES STEIN A HAPPY FATHER’S DAY. James Periera registered a hat trick, Suvin Malik added two goals, and James Stein recorded the win as Filthy Gorgeous defeated Mexican Standoff, 9-3. Liza Watts, Jonathan ‘Red Pants’ Rick, Joe Periera, and Matt Novick also scored goals for Filthy Gorgeous, who also received a special assist from Adam Coe. This game also featured a great show of sportsmanship, as these two teams, which cheer at each other’s games and go away together kept cool before the game by sharing slices of watermelon.

THE UNICORNS HAVE AN AFFINITY FOR TIES. In a matchup of two of the best goaltenders in the league, Craig Lacombe and Anthony Romeo did not disappoint, as the Rehabs and Unicorns played to a 1-1 tie. Alex Zabala scored in the first half for the Unicorns, and Lateef Nurmohamed scored the Rehabs only goal of the game early in the second half. Neither team scored in the shootout, and Romeo preserved the tie on the last attempt of the shootout by stopping Hector ‘Showtime’ Melendez’s shot as it was just inches away from trickling across the goal line.

NOAH FARKAS IS CREATING A GOALIE CONTROVERSY. Backup goalie Noah Farkas won his fourth straight game in relief of injured starter Jim Morris as the Denim Demons rallied for a 2-1 victory against Fresh Kills. Alexandre Frenette (assisted by Bob ‘Olmec’ Weyersberg and Jennifer Chen) staked Fresh Kills to the early lead, but Abigail Meisterman set up Micael Holmström for the tying goal, setting up a dramatic finish. Holmström’s second goal of the game, with two minutes remaining in regulation, was the game winner, as the Denim Demons held off a final push from Fresh Kills for the victory.

LES TUQUES GAGNENT. Alex Young, Bill Monahan, Alfred Liu, and Gabe Wilson each scored a goal as the Tuques defeated the Sky Fighters, 4-2. Chris Shumaker and Dale Shulmistra scored goals for the Sky Fighters, who used Gouging Anklebiters goalie Mike O’Connor as an emergency replacement.

IT’S AN EMERGENCY GOALIE SPECTACULAR. Mike Taylor scored the only goal of the shootout as Pork Fried Rice prevailed against the Mighty Squirrels, 4-3, in a game featuring Ant Ventolieri in goal for Pork Fried Rice and Kyle Fogden in goal for the Mighty Squirrels. Mike Mincieli’s second goal of the game tied the score with less than one minute remaining in regulation, and Eric Cole also scored for the Mighty Squirrels. The goal scorers for Pork Fried Rice were Taylor, Mike ‘Cupcake’ Bartlett, and Tim Hannon.

DUTCH LIKES SEEING HIS NAME IN PRINT. Brendan ‘Dutch’ Kearney scored two goals, including the game winner in overtime, as the Corlears Hookers remained undefeated with a 4-3 victory against LBS. Molly Jacobs, Ken ‘The Alpha Male’ Poulin, and Tom Capotosta each scored a goal for LBS, who rallied from a second half deficit to force the extra session. Seth Wachtell also made numerous key saves for LBS to keep them within striking distance. Elizabeth Lewis and David Kucharsky also scored goals for the Corlears Hookers.

P.T. STANDS FOR PERFECT TIMING. P.T. Walkley scored his second goal of the game in overtime as the Dark Rainbows defeated the Gouging Anklebiters, 3-2, for their second consecutive overtime win. Jennie Brown also scored a goal for the Dark Rainbows, while Alex Owen and Charles DeFranco were the goal scorers for the Gouging Anklebiters.

LUCKY THIRTEEN. Darrell Hartman scored all four of his goals in the first half as What The Puck raced to their thirteenth consecutive victory with an 8-2 decision against the Mathematics. What The Puck also received two goals from Brian Vroom and one goal each from Tom MacDonald and Larry Zimmer. Andy Levine and Derek Tagliarino each contributed one goal for the Mathematics.

News and Notes

Haanwa Chau of Mexican Standoff is running a skills clinic at Corlears on Sunday at 1:30 PM, prior to the league games. The clinic is targeted to rookies and females, but if someone like Andy Pratt feels like attending, I am sure he would not be turned away. Please reply to Haanwa [at] hotmail [dot] com if you are interested in attending….In last week’s report, Alex Zabala was incorrectly credited with the assist on Caitlin Ervin’s game-winning goal. Hector ‘Showtime’ Melendez made the pass to Caitlin that resulted in the goal….The games at Corlears started forty-five minutes late due to a softball game taking place at Corlears. As a result, the final Corlears game did not end until 7:15 PM….Alex Owen’s goal was his first BTSH goal….The heat was not kind to LBS, as two of their players were seen puking at Moffo….The new resurfacing and repainting at Corlears has reduced the playing surface for the smaller court, which is now approximately seven feet narrower….Finally, a belated happy Father’s Day for all of the fathers in BTSH.
