KEY RULES TO REVIEW
– there have been a bunch of rule changes and clarifications during the off-season. Please make sure you read and understand the rules. Here are some of the changes for this season.
- don’t be a dick! This rule has been moved to number one for a reason. We’re going to start using it!
– All face-offs shall be “knock hockey†style with the ground being the last thing hit before the ball.
– a player in-bounding the ball may shoot the ball anywhere within the playing area, INCLUDING ON GOAL, deflected or not. no part of the defending player may be closer than 3 feet from the ball while inbounding. this includes their stick
- players, including goalies, have 5 seconds to bring the ball back into bounds or into play
SAY ONLY ON COURT 1
– do not intentionally flip the ball on to the grassy knoll just to get possession and an easy pass, you’ll be called for breaking rule 1.
– do no touch the goalie! Any ensuing goal will be disallowed and if serious enough you will be ejected from the game
– goalie throws are restricted to throws to the side or behind the goal line — goalies can’t throw the ball forward.
– goalies may not cover, freeze, glove or close their hand on the ball unless they are within their crease (fully or partially)
– balls cannot be hit into the air above the height of the goal crossbar. for a shot it is the refs discretion.
– slapshots are illegal. the stick may not go above the knee in either winding up or following through on a shot. Any play afterwards will be disallowed (demonstrate if necessary)
- the stick is not allowed to EVER be above the waist…even if just running with it.
- stick checking is NOT allowed, in any form. the play has to be for the ball not another person’s stick
- hand passes are allowed only if both players are in their defending zone (point out defending zone), otherwise the play will be disallowed
- you are NOT allowed to be in the crease. if a goal is scored and any part of you, besides the stick, is in the crease the goal will be disallowed. the stick may only be in the crease if the ball preceded it in there and you are NOT touching the goalie.
- no player may speak to a ref during the game unless the ref initiates the communication. tell your captain if you have something to say. a ref does not have to stop and talk to the captain during play. any communication to the ref should be done during a stoppage.
- ask if there are any questions
