Franchise Four- Demons

One of the most energetic teams on the courts has always been the Denims Demons. Originally, they were just a group of guys in Coach’s band, but have morphed into so much more. It was not easy picking four from this group, as so many make viable arguments as to why they are worthy.

The Demons would not be the franchise that they are without a Woman’s Touch, and more specifically, without Abby’s influence. While Adam set the plays in motion (more on him later?), Abby was their vocal leader on the court and on the sidelines. Whether you were at Corlears Park, Moffo, or TSP, you didn’t have to watch the Demons game to know if they scored, you just had to hear Abby’s enthusiasm. What solidified her spot on this list was (stop reading now $hoWT!m3) her role in The Greatest Regular Season Game in BTSH history. In 2009, the Demons and Rehabs battled in a classic game. 0-0 late. The Rehabs scored two goals with just under two minutes to go, but the never-say-die Demons scored two in the last minute. After a scoreless OT, they went to a shootout. Then this happened. Holmstrom scored the best shootout goal in BTSH history (not scored against Stein by Gil), and after a save by Coach (I think against MDF), the Demons celebrated. Abby put her hand to her mouth and blew the whole league kisses in celebration. A well deserved spot in the top 4 for Abby.

While Abby was their spiritual and vocal leader, the Demons don’t exist without Coach. What many people don’t know is Coach has only been the goalie since 2009. He was forced into net and hasn’t left since. (well, ok, he just did, but the new season hasn’t started so why spoil my narrative) While the Demons may never win the (prestigious, yet very imaginary) Friendliest Team Award, you could always pull for Coach. Off the court, he is a classy and brilliant man, with surprisingly good abs. On the court, the old man is a G. Check the box scores whenever the Demons got eliminated. It’s never for Coach giving up a lot of goals. He’s probably the most underrated goalie out there, now that everyone knows how good Tim K. is. Also, we all wouldn’t know how great Tim K. is if he didn’t constantly post about being great, but lets leave that for Filthier.

NOT NOW TIM!!! This is not about you!

Zack T.

Before we get into Zack and his contribution to the Demons, let’s talk about this picture. This was a playoff game in 2010. How was this not a color-change? Way to go, Adriano. You screwed everything up. This is prob why the Demons lost and didn’t win the championship that year. Now we have to hear Chadwick brag about Instant Karma’s win forever.

But I digress. Zack got the nod over Kamen mostly because he reffed for so long, and while Jeff is very silent about his mean mug, Zack was more vocal. Both are great scorers and give everything they have while playing. Few players were as dangerous as both Jeff and Zack. Zack was not only a great scorer, but he was a relentless forechecker. His wife is the female version of him, without the goals. In truth, I think Jeff or Zack could be on this list, but since none of us are afraid Jeff is going to come to our house and slash us, we put in Zack.

Adam R.

Clearly, we did not go in alphabetical order. The brains of the Demons has always been Adam. Well, at least since I remember, he probably wasn’t when he was on the Lbs. But Adam is a very underrated defensemen and has scored many big goals. The Demons are never outhustled, and that is probably the biggest compliment I can pay to a captain. For me, the most impressive game I ever saw the Demons play was when the Elves destroyed them. We were up 8-1 and we thought we may mercy them. But the Demons stormed back and made it a game, losing 8-4 or 8-5. It’s easy to give your all when you’re winning. But to give your all when you’re getting smushed is another story. And if you are on the Demons, you are giving your all no matter what. Some people don’t like that. Adam truly doesn’t care. (And if he does care he most definitely likes it)

But my other favorite memory of Adam was at the OC tournament last year. After making a great run the Demon-filled team lost in the finals. After the game, Adam walked to the center of the rink and cheered the fans who stayed and watched. A classy move that was appreciated by (almost) all.

Honorable Mentions:
We already mentioned Jeff, but someone named Spags co-created the Demons from what we heard. Unfortunately, he wasn’t around for the Modern Era (2008-2015) and with five other really strong candidates, Spags got screwed. Pour one for Spaggy.
