-why no bbq at the bbq?
peaches feared rain, which would mean low turnout, fire difficulties, and wet meats.  but minicandy bars and beer won the day anyway.  hurrah!

*listings
-from Alexis Demons:
My lovely roommate’s lame-cake friend bailed on subletting her room so I am circulating her listing in the hopes that I can live with a btsh-er for one brief, shining summer.  In her words:

$625/ 1 room for summer sublet starting NOW (or July 1st) to August 31st.
Big room in huge Inwood (207th St. at Cooper St.) apartment available now through September 4th. I would be charging just 2 months rent (for July and August), even if you move in tomorrow (June 27th) and stay until September 4th.
The apartment is 1.5 blocks west of the A express train 207 St stop (approx 30 mins from 34th St); neighborhood is safe and roommates are awesome. The bedroom is furnished, and I emptied the wardrobe so you can hang clothes etc. Bedroom windows overlook an undeveloped, pretty garden and is quiet at night. There is a spare A/C unit in the closet that you can use as well.
The apt fills the whole second floor of a cute three-story house and has a kitchen (with dishwasher), dining room, living room and 1.5 bathrooms. It’s a 4-bedroom apartment, but I and one other roommate will be gone the whole summer.
I had a subletter lined up, but he had a family emergency and has to stay in CA for the summer. I’m leaving tomorrow, so my roommates will be in charge of showing the place. It’s a really great deal: cheap, big, friendly folks!

lessy was cranky that craig gave up a tying goal and sent the game in ot, forcing our fair ref to sweat it out (literally) for an extra 20 minutes. at least craig was probalby suffering more. and he didn’t make lessy smell his pads.

-i found a stick on sunday. my email is jcassidy77 at hotmail dot com if they want to contact.

-I realized this week that last week (6/4) I picked up someone else’s orange and black Vector stick (about 60″, no tape) from the Johnsons. Email me at katherinembrown at gmail dot com if it’s yours… My own orange and black Vector (about 54″) was at home, so I must have left another 54″ black and grey stick (I don’t remember the brand) at the Johnsons instead - please let me know if you found one. Sorry for confusion.  thanks.

-from ed pfr:
I wanted to thank all of those who attended the charity tournament for the American Cancer Society last Saturday.

I had hoped to raise $1500 for the ACS, but you helped blow out the number and we raised $2813.  Please tell those that didn’t make it how much fun it was so that next year will be even bigger and better.  I want this to be an annual thing and the plan is to have it before Memorial Day in order to avoid wedding/summer home/vacation season.  More importantly I want to increase the amount we raise for the ACS.

I have many people to thank and I apologize if I forget anyone…here goes:

Liza/Jason/Larry for helping organize this event
Zack for taking on the huge burden of being head referee and taking care of the nets
Raji for getting the waiver done
KK, BB, HC, JR and SP (initials used to protect the humble), who accounted for a combined >40% of the gross amount - your generosity is truly humbling.

Kudos to Mexican Standoff for sending the most players.

I hope to see you at the Second Annual NYC Street Hockey Tournament in May 2007.

-btsh vs ballers
in the moments after beaning a basketball player in the back with a hockey ball, mayhaps one should say “are you ok? in favor of “give us back our ball!” (not that i know this for a fact, but it is an educated guess based on dealing with you people for 7 years).  thankfully moffo has a fence and btsh refs go above and beyond the call, thus keeping lbs and the sunday b ballers from killing each other.

kudos:
-keepin it clean
every week, the only kudos i get are about clean games.  this is good, i guess–  and big upps, rainbows and mso–  but can’t somebody barf on the sidelines, or eat a whole pizza, or accidentally poop themselves on the court?  c’mon.  gimme something to work with.

This Wednesday, June 7th I will be performing at Bobby Tisdale & Eugene Mirman’s much-loved comedy show, Invite Them Up, at Rififi. There are three reason’s why you should consider going:

1) I will be performing a tap-dancing comedy act with my friend Holly Schlessinger. We have been threatening to do a tap routine together, on stage, for years. This Wednesday we’re doing it.
2) After the show, a new episode of the Video Power Hour, a 1/2 hour video shorts show put together by Matt Hall and myself will air. This new episode features videos from:
Martin Cjeka
Patrick Borelli

Jakob Lodwick
Francine Spiegel
Interpol
Matt Hall
Eric Brown
Stephanie Mnookin
Eliot Laurence
Tarvis Watson
Takeshi Murata

-from ed pfr.  c’mon!  preregister already!
On Saturday June 10th, there will be a street hockey tournament with all proceeds going to the American Cancer Society.

So here are the particulars:
Who:  Anyone over 18 who can play a clean, non-contact game of street hockey for a great cause.
What:  Street hockey tournament with a 3 game guarantee and possible playoff games.
When: Saturday June 10th, registration (signing a waiver and paying the entry fee) begins at 8:30am, the games will start at 9:30am sharp.  Expected ending time will be 4pm.
Where: Tanahey Park/Moffo rink in downtown Manhattan near Cherry and Catherine.
How:  There will be 8 teams.  All players will be randomly assigned as they arrive to the 8 teams to ensure that there is an equal distribution of males, females and talent across the teams.  Within reason and with the consent of team captains, there will be trades permitted to allow friends to play with friends.  There will be two simultaneous games running, one in the hockey rink and one on the basketball courts adjacent to the rink.  There will be 2 divisions with 4 teams each and there will be three 40 minute games round-robin style per team.  This will be followed by a playoff game between the top teams from each division.  If time permits, there will be a semi-final playoff game preceding the finals.

There is a $25 entry fee and that goes directly to the American Cancer Society.

PLEASE PRE-REGISTER FOR THIS EVENT.  If you pre-register, you can show up as late as 9:30am and still be guaranteed to not miss any playing time.

Here are the links to pre-register.  They are direct links to the American Cancer Society, so your tax receipt is issued immediately.  By pre-registering, you can also put your company name down in case they match donations.  Just remember pre-registration closes at 8:00am on June 10th.  At that time the list will be taken to the rink and there will be a record of it when you show up.

A representative from the ACS will be there to collect the entry fee and hand out tax receipts for those who wish to pay on the day of the event.  A check or credit card info is preferred and can be made out to the American Cancer Society.  Of course you can feel free to donate more.

Please keep in mind that this is a co-ed tournament with differing levels of skill.  The bottom line is that we will be playing for the American Cancer Society, not the Stanley Cup, so aggressive play will not be tolerated.

As this tournament is round robin, you will need to bring a white and a black shirt.

The first games will start at 9:30am sharp in order to get all of the games in within the permit times.  If you show up later, you will still be placed on a team, but you may have missed some playing time.

If you are a goalie, there are only 8 spots available, so please contact Edward Lau (nigeltufnelny at hotmail dot com) or Liza Watts (wattsliza at yahoo dot com) to reserve a spot.  If you are a position player, just show up and we‚ll put you on a team.

from bob w:
“due to malfunction of the gear manager’s car today, he will not be able to
make it to the games this sunday. we need somebody to help with setting up
and closing the games at corlears this sunday. it involves getting the nets
and gear bag from the mini-storage facility near moffo (cherry st. and
catherine st.), bringing the stuff to corlears, helping set it up. and then
at the end of the day, helping to break down the nets and bringing them
back to the storage locker.

if anybody with a car can pitch in and help out, that would be great. it
pays $15 each way. so if you both open and close, it nets you $30. if you
don’t have a car but you have a bike, bob could possibly lend you his
“hockey wagon.”

contact bobw ASAP if you can do it. he leaves town at the crack of dawn
